*.LIB files

Hi,

I have always been interested in investigating how old MS-DOS programs work. I have noticed a lot of older software appears to have been compiled with some version of the Microsoft C compiler for MS-DOS. I have looked at a few of those compilers and have noticed they come with *.lib files and I am curious as to what exactly is in those. Does anyone know of any documentation or where to look?

Also, it seems the compiler for QuickBASIC comes with similar *.lib files.

Thank you! :-)
