If you use the Windows installer

And launch EMS Magic from the start menu, it will automatically set the XMS to the maximum (16 MB in Windows 2000, 32 MB in Windows XP). You can also set the default XMS for all command prompts by editing the properties of _default.pif in your Windows directory.
