Great discussion so far. Based on the thread, a few additional suggestions:

1. Check if the ROM BASIC keyboard handler is properly initialized. Some BASIC implementations need specific keyboard interrupt vectors set up.

2. Try testing with different keyboard protocols - PS/2, XT, or AT modes might behave differently depending on your converter hardware.

3. If keyboard works in DOS but not BASIC, it could be a software driver issue rather than hardware. Consider checking BIOS keyboard timeout settings.

4. As mentioned, a known-working PC/XT keyboard would help isolate whether this is keyboard-specific or a broader compatibility issue with your converter setup.
