A question about EMS magic

I haven't tried it till today. I thought it is a good solution to run some DOS demos, games and stuff also with sound under XP, but I am not sure about something and this maybe a silly question. Some programs tell me "that protected mode is already in the system" and so it can't start but I know this is a problem of loaded EMS or protected mode loaded from the Windows. But at first I thought EMS magic would either load it's own EMS/XMS or will override the windows or something and let these progs run. Or not? Is there a way to still run these progs under XP? Or did I missed the purpose of EMS magic?
