rel Tue Mar 25 2008 at 8:44 pm Is this a bootsector virus or hardware prob?
Amd athlon 64 dual core (at least that's what ultimate boot disc reports)
40 gig HD
448 mb Ram
Integ vid card
Everytime I boot via HD, it restarts after about 5-10 secs so I booted from the cd using the ultimate bootdisc made with BartPE. Xp ran fine if booted from a CD or even a USB flash drive.
I ran some diagnostics Avira Personal and some anti spyware found in UBCD win and true enough I had like 100 or so malware hits. However after I booted off from the HD again, the problem persisted. So I ran a bootsector test for viruses and none was found. Then I ran memtest-86 just to be sure but it reported no problems.
So I resolved just to do a clean format after I backup all the important files. However everytime I burn the backup on a cd using the packages in UBCD, the burning process gets stuck at about 15% to 30%. I've used just about all the cd burning stuff that can be found in UBCD (4 if them).
